OUTSIDERS & VALUE BETS AT THE 2025 PDC WORLD DARTS CHAMPIONSHIP

With 96 of the world’s best players set to descend on Alexandra Palace for the 2025 PDC World Darts Championships, it’s time to look away from favourites such as Luke Littler and Luke Humphries and analyse some alternative names that might just provide a bit of value for the tournament.

Here, we’ll cover big players at high prices plus a few more outside bets as darts returns to centre stage this festive season.

As always, we will have some phenomenal odds and offers throughout the competition – check out our dedicated PDC World Darts Championship page throughout the action at Ally Pally for the latest prices, insightful articles and promotions.

Four 2025 PDC World Darts Championship Outsiders

Michael Smith – 33/1

This isn’t uncharted territory for Michael Smith – Bully Boy won here as recently as 2023 to become world champion – but his 2024 has failed to live up to the standards we know he is capable of.

A sole success in the World Cup of Darts alongside Luke Humphries was as good as it got for Smith, though he was runner-up in the World Series of Darts Finals and a semi-finalist in both the BetMGM Premier League and the World Matchplay.

An average of 95.25 ranks Smith 18th for 2024 but he does sit in fourth for 180s this year with an impressive 540 – though this is some way behind Luke Littler’s mammoth 800 maximums.

He has hit the most 180s at the World Championships on three occasions – in 2019, 2022 and 2023 – so if you do fancy him to go deep Smith is a tasty 18/1 to do just that again.

Something hasn’t been quite right for Bully Boy, he has struggled to find a rhythm and suffered first-round exits in the Grand Slam and Grand Prix.

Despite this, he enters the worlds as the second seed behind Humphries while competing in the second half of the draw means he will avoid both Lukes until meeting one of them in the final if he does go on a prolonged run.

As a former champion seeded second yet outside the top five or six names in the betting, Smith is certainly one to keep an eye on. We know what he is capable of and what a time this would be to show it.

### Stephen Bunting – 40/1 A 2021 World Darts Championship semi-finalist, Bunting finally won his first PDC major title this year when beating Michael van Gerwen in the final of the Masters.

‘The Bullet’ reached the last eight of the UK Open and the final of six Players Championship events but has also seen a number of early exits this year.

First-round defeats in the Players Championship Finals, the European Championship and the World Grand Prix have been disappointing but, with the seventh-best average (96.83) on the 2024 tour, Bunting scores higher than anyone in his quarter bar world champion Luke Humphries.

He would have likely have to beat Humphries to go all the way – a tall ask but one he completed on the way to his Masters victory and he is an attractive 13/2 to win the quarter.

And don’t forget the Bullet has been a world champion before. The 2014 BDO world title win came before his move to the PDC so, while his 40/1 odds seem long and it’s true majors have largely been all or nothing for Bunting this year, he will fancy a good run at this one and will have the crowd backing him along the way.

Dimitri Van Den Bergh - 80/1

World number 11 Dimitri Van Den Bergh has enjoyed a strong 2024, with his impressive UK Open final win over Humphries clinching him his second major four years after his 2020 World Matchplay victory.

Overall ‘the Dreammaker’ has made four semi-finals in majors this year to go with that UK Open title, though his 2024 average (92.56) still places him outside the top 40.

His scoring indicates some struggles with consistency, as does his relatively mediocre 35.45% checkout percentage which places him 217th on tour.

That said, on the way to UK Open success Van den Bergh had a lower average than his opponent in the sixth round, quarter-final and even the final – it didn’t stop him.

The Belgian made the last four of this very competition in 2023 so his 80/1 price has value here, especially as he avoids Littler or Humphries in his quarter of the draw.

Michael van Gerwen or Gary Anderson will likely await, though neither has enjoyed a fluent 2024 themselves and so would provide tough, yet winnable, games. One to look at each way.

Ricardo Pietreczko – 200/1

The real wildcard here. A 200/1 shot, unseeded German Pietreczko has yet to make it past the last eight of a major tournament.

A quarter-final appearance at the European Championship was ended only by a narrow defeat to Danny Noppert while he made the final of the Flanders Darts Tournament on the European Tour this year too.

His average of 90.03 doesn’t set the world alight but it is to last year's PDC World Championships we head as the rationale behind this particular shout.

Pietreczko made it to the third round which, on paper, seems nothing to write home about. Yet in that game he faced the overall winner in Humphries and took a 3-1 lead – including winning the fourth set 3-0 – before ultimately losing 4-3 to ‘Cool Hand’.

It is that sort of performance that, if he can get over the line, makes his 200/1 odds seem long enough to find some value and indeed there is something to be said even for the 2/1 that Pietreczko will be ‘King of the Oche’ against Xiao Chen Zong in his first-round tie.

‘Pikachu’ has a tough draw overall, with PDC world youth champion Gian van Veen awaiting should he make it past his first game while Littler sits in his quarter too.

He and Littler have a bit of history – they clashed at the semi-final of the Belgian Darts Open, with Pietreczko calling Littler ‘arrogant’ – and the German’s 28/1 odds to win this quarter would require him to beat the English youngster.

Outsiders aren’t outsiders for nothing, and Pietreczko very much is one. As an each-way shout in the worlds, though? You just never know.
