Europa League Gameweek 8 Tips: Plenty of Goals at Spurs

The Europa League’s league phase is set to come to a dramatic conclusion with 18 games all kicking off in an action-packed final round of matches on Thursday.

There is still plenty to play for with Lazio the only team to have confirmed an automatic spot in the last 16 and just seven teams eliminated from achieving a place in the knockout stages.

Tip 1 - Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in Rangers vs Union Saint-Gilloise @ 8/11

Rangers put in an admirable performance on the road against Manchester United last week and face Union Saint-Gilloise looking to secure a spot in the top eight and the automatic place in the last 16 that it provides.

Both teams have scored in five of the Light Blues’ last six European games and a repeat of that looks likely when they host the Belgians, who are only behind them on goal difference.

This is essentially a free hit for both teams as they try to reach the last 16 automatically so expect an entertaining affair that sees both teams find the net and produces three or more goals.

Tip 2 - Hugo Ekitike to score at any time vs Roma @ 11/4

Manchester City signed Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush earlier this month but his former teammate Hugo Ekitike has been almost as impressive this season.

The 22-year-old has 16 goals in all competitions this season and has netted five times in his last four outings.

Frankfurt face a Roma team who could still slip out of the knockout places after winning just two of their seven group games and Ekitike could take advantage of any weaknesses in the Italian side’s backline.

Tip 3 - Bodo/Glimt draw no bet vs Nice @ Evs

Nice have had a dismal Europa League campaign, taking just two points from a possible 21, meaning that their elimination is already confirmed.

They host Bodo/Glimt in their final game with just pride to play for. However the visitors have won four of their group matches, including victories over Porto, Braga and Besiktas.

They are just a point off a top-eight finish at present so have a solid chance of progressing automatically to the last 16. Consider Bodo in the draw no bet market against their struggling hosts.

Tip 4 - Under 2.5 goals in FCSB vs Manchester United @ 6/5

Manchester United have hardly set the world alight under Ruben Amorim and they may find their final Europa League group game a slog.

They are two points clear of Galatasaray in ninth so have a good chance of securing an automatic spot in the last 16, although they face an FCSB team who are currently eighth and should not be underestimated.

Only Roma, Olympiacos, Union Saint-Gilloise and Lazio have conceded fewer goals in this competition this season than the Romanians and they could keep this contest close.

Including qualifiers, six of the home team’s nine Europa League games this season have gone under 2.5 goals and a repeat of that is the selection against the Red Devils.

Tip 5 - Tottenham to win and both teams to score vs Elfsborg @ 13/10

The pressure is rising on Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou due to their dismal Premier League form but they have been solid in the Europa League, losing just one of their seven group games to sit sixth coming into the final fixture.

They host Elfsborg, who are in with a chance of securing a place in the knockout places after winning two on the spin.

The Swedes have scored in all but one of their seven group games and are fancied to get on the scoresheet again.

Both teams have netted in five of Spurs’ last six European clashes and the hosts are fancied to edge a game in which that lands once more.
