Phoenix Open Golf Betting Tips
It is the noisiest week of the PGA Tour calendar this week as 132 players line up to tame both TPC Scottsdale and its boisterous crowds at the Phoenix Open.
The huge crowds will be at their most raucous at the Stadium par-three 16th and it will not just be player’s accuracy and putting qualities that are put to the test, but their composure in the face of a host of distractions.
Canadian Nick Taylor will be defending his crown, but most eyes will be on the hot favourite Scottie Scheffler, who was ninth on his seasonal reappearance at Pebble Beach last week, six shots behind winner Rory McIlroy, who is skipping the trip to Arizona.
Scheffler won this tournament two years on the bounce before Taylor’s triumph, but another double winner, Hideki Matsuyama, who triumphed in 2016 and 2017, will also have his eyes on the prize having already tasted 2025 victory at The Sentry.
It promises to be an entertaining four days as the best on Tour embark on a battle of wits around the 7,261-yard, par-71 test.
Tip 1 - Hideki Matsuyama to win Phoenix Open @ 14/1
Matsuyama finds himself fifth in the world golf rankings and after a strong start to 2025, and there seems a good chance he can claim his third Phoenix Open this week.
The Japanese star, who won the 2021 Masters, has already added to his trophy cabinet this year with a victory in the opening event at The Sentry and he followed that with 16th in the other tournament held in Hawaii, the Sony Open the next week.
There is a strong chance that he would have performed better than his tie for 32nd at the Farmers Insurance Open had he not closed with a 76 when he was suffering with flu symptoms.
His 48th at Pebble Beach last week was underwhelming but this is a track where he has flourished before.
Matsuyama was a prominent Scottsdale performer in the middle of the last decade, winning at the Arizona venue in 2016 and 2017 while he was also fourth in 2014 and second in 2015.
The eighth he posted three years ago is his most prominent course showing recently, but this is a track where his brand of aggressive iron play can be rewarded, so don’t be surprised if he makes another bold bid.
Tip 2 - Tom Kim to win Phoenix Open @ 30/1
Tom Kim’s tie for seventh at Pebble Beach should serve as a confidence boost after an indifferent start to 2025 following the second spot he posted in the Hero Challenge while he was also runner-up at the Genesis Championship in his native South Korea in October.
He was 17th on his second visit to Scottsdale last year when he made a poor start with a 74 but fought back with subsequent rounds of 66, 67 and 67.
If he can hit the ground running this time then the quality of his all-round game could get him into the reckoning.
Tip 3 - Nick Taylor to win Phoenix Open @ 55/1
Defending champion Nick Taylor should be excited about returning to Scottsdale after he came out on top in a play-off against Charley Hoffman last year when he carded an opening round of 60.
That performance came 12 months after he was a two-shot runner-up to Scheffler - Jon Rahm was a further three shots behind - and he has already claimed a victory in 2025 after securing another extra-holes success, this time against Nicolas Echavarria at the Sony Open.
A third-round 73 scuppered his chances of another bold bid at the American Express when he finished 12th and 33rd at Pebble Beach was not a disaster, so happy Scottsdale memories could see him back in contention at a big price.
