Megan Nicholls Racing Preview: Cheltenham and Doncaster Tips
SATURDAY RACING TIPS
Cheltenham 1.50 – December Gold Cup
I’ve gone with GA Law (6/1) here.
I think Il Ridoto (13/2) is the reliable bet and you can still look at him each-way, but after a career-best performance last time, prompting a big rise in the weights, it’s going to be harder.
GA Law is better at the weights this time around – he’s another who goes well at Cheltenham. He slipped on the bend last in the Paddy Power Gold Cup last month – it didn’t make a difference as Il Ridoto would have won regardless - but he could have a big chance this time around.
There are lots of Cheltenham specialists and horses that have bumped into each other plenty of times, so it’s quite hard to figure them all out.
I’ve decided to work it out according to the handicapper, which is why I’ve gone with GA Law to win and Il Ridoto as the safe each-way bet.
Megan’s Tip: GA Law WIN; Il Ridoto EW
Doncaster 2.05 – Handicap Chase
Gaboriot (9/2 2nd fav) ran very well in the Grand Sefton last time, staying on well.
He’s been progressive, his yard is in form, and he’s stepping up in trip again and that can help him.
He’s still nicely weighted with 10st 7lbs on his back and with a mark of 128 and possible further progression, he’s my selection.
Megan’s Tip: Gaboriot WIN
If they clash in the @BetMGMUK Clarence House @Ascot, who are you backing?

Cheltenham 2.25 – BetMGM Handicap Chaser
Libberty Hunter (9/4 fav) is much improved for chasing. He’s run two big races at Cheltenham and running fresh is not a problem for him.
He was behind Master Chewy (5/2 2nd fav) at the start of the season, but it was following a quick turnaround after finishing second in the Grand Annual.
I think this horse has a good bit of ability and I’m expecting a big run from him.
Megan’s Tip: Libberty Hunter WIN
Cheltenham 3.35 – BetMGM Mares’ Handicap Hurdle
I found it very hard to get away from Joyeuse (9/4 fav), who could be really well-handicapped off a mark of 119.
The form of her win at Taunton last season looks very solid now, and her reappearance run at Ascot was more than adequate.
The step up in trip could be beneficial too and she could be very hard to stop.
At an each-way price, I’ll chance Greyval (12/1), who ran really well at Wincanton. She’s up in trip for the first time and given the way she flew home at Wincanton, you’d like to think it really suit her.
The stiff finish at Cheltenham should also play to her strengths and she could just sneak into the place at a decent price.
Megan’s Tip: Joyeuse WIN; Greyval EW
