Meg Nicholls: My National Hunt 2024/25 Five To Follow

Viyanni

He’s trained by my cousin Harry Derham and he’s yet to run over hurdles, but he was a winner on the Flat for Johnny Murtagh.

He was previously owned and bred by the Aga Khan, so he’s got a pretty strong staying family.

He’s shown plenty at home so far and I think he could be a nice horse for juvenile hurdles this season.

Supreme Malinas

For the bumpers, I’ve picked Supreme Malinas.

She’s trained by Dan Skelton and she was narrowly beaten on her rules debut at Newton Abbot in pretty testing conditions. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in Listed, if not Graded, company amongst her own sex throughout this season and I think she could be one worth following.

She’s pretty talented, I reckon.

Regent’s Stroll

He’s trained by my Dad, Paul [Nicholls], and he’s unbeaten in bumpers so far. He’s been very impressive and comes with quite a big reputation.

He’s sort of a horse that people have followed as he was resold but luckily we had new owners to purchase him and he has returned to Ditcheat.

I think he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with in the novice hurdles this season.

Majborough

I’d be silly to choose some horses to follow without mentioning one from Willie Mullins’ yard, so Majborough for me stood out a mile in the paddock in the Triumph Hurdle last year before going on to win that race at the Festival.

He is a huge, gorgeous and good-looking horse, I can’t wait to see him go chasing.

I think he could be right at the top level this season again and I think we’ve got a pretty special one on our hands with Majborough.

Indeevar Bleu

One horse that caught my eye at Olly Murphy’s was Indeevar Bleu, who actually won his bumper by a very long way at Wetherby last season.

He ran over hurdles and didn’t win at Ayr but was an eye-catcher. He really impressed me at Olly’s and, with a bit of time off the track, he’s strengthened up.
