Six Nations Outright Tips 2025: No Farrell, no problem for Irish
Much of the talk prior to the highly-anticipated 2025 Six Nations is about how reigning champions Ireland will cope without head coach Andy Farrell as he concentrates on British & Irish Lions duty ahead of the summer tour of Australia.
However, such is the way Ireland play, and how Farrell has developed this side over recent years, the men in green should be able to cope without the Lancastrian and secure the Six Nations title for a third successive year.
Tip 1 – Ireland to win the 2025 Six Nations @ 15/8
Simply looking at the schedule for Ireland, the reigning champions look to be good value to retain their Six Nations crown this season.
While a Grand Slam for any side this year looks unlikely due to the increasingly competitive nature of the competition, Ireland look capable of bagging at least the four wins that would be required to lift the trophy.
Ireland have only two games at the Aviva Stadium but they are both huge ones, with England and France heading to Dublin this year.
England head to the Aviva in Round One and a victory for the Irish there would be the perfect springboard for the men in green heading into a tricky trip to Murrayfield to face Scotland in Round Two.
With trips to Cardiff and Rome in games that should be a formality, Ireland appeal at 15/8 to be crowned champions again and become the first country to win the tournament for three years in a row during the Six Nations era.
Tip 2 – Wales to finish bottom @ 8/11
Failing to win any of their games in 2024, it’s hard to see where the victories will come from for Wales in this Six Nations.
Italy are a team on the up, as the Azzurri managed to claim two wins and a draw from their Six Nations campaign last season.
Argentinean head coach Gonzalo Quesada has his team moving in the right direction and they will be determined to build on their successes in 2024.
With Italy hosting Wales in Rome in what is likely to be the key battle in avoiding the wooden spoon, the Welsh might well finish rock bottom of the standings again this season.
Tip 3 – Duhan Van der Merwe top tryscorer @ 12/1
There’s a battle going on within the Scotland camp to be the nation's top tryscorer, with Duhan van der Merwe and Darcy Graham scrapping it out to be top dog.
Van der Merwe currently leads the way going into the 2025 Six Nations with 30 tries, while Graham is just one behind having earned two caps less.
The pair will be pushing each other to get those tries and that could lead to one of these men finishing the top tryscorer in this Six Nations.
Scotland host both Italy and Wales at Murrayfield this year, in games which could see the Scots rack up the points if they get going.
Van der Merwe was joint-top tryscorer in the Six Nations in 2024 and top tryscorer in 2021.
With that in mind, the 12/1 for the Edinburgh winger to top the tryscoring charts again this season certainly catches the eye.
