Chris Dobey will appear in the BetMGM Premier League for the second time as a full participant, having finished seventh during the 2023 season.
Coupled with two previous stints as a guest challenger – in the 2019 and 2020 BetMGM Premier League campaigns – Dobey is well-placed to make a real mark on the competition this time round.
Dobey enjoyed a productive 2024 and, though he was unable to add to his PDC major wins, three ranking titles and a semi-final spot at the World Championship secured his Premier League place.
Below, you can dive further into ‘Hollywood’ and look at his career highlights ahead of the 17-night 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts season, which kicks off on 6th February in Belfast.
Chris Dobey History
Making his first major TV appearance in the 2014 UK Open, Dobey has gone from strength to strength in his rise through the PDC rankings.
His first quarter-final appearance came in the 2016 Grand Slam of Darts, where he narrowly lost to James Wade. In the same year, he reached his first Players Championship final.
Dobey lost out to eventual winner Michael van Gerwen at the semi-final stage of the 2019 Grand Prix – in what was his first last-four appearance at a major PDC tournament – and made the same stage of that year’s Players Championship Finals.
While 2020 and 2021 brought no success in the majors, Dobey did claim his maiden two Players Championship titles in Coventry and Barnsley.
Mainstream success soon followed. Eventual champion Ross Smith beat Dobey in the 2022 European Championship semi-final but Hollywood did not have to wait too much longer for that elusive first major.
In the 2023 Masters, Dobey defeated defending champion Joe Cullen, future world number one Luke Humphries and then world champion Michael Smith before defeating multiple-time major winner Rob Cross 11-7 in the final.
Following his first major success, Dobey was selected for the 2023 Premier League and even topped the table after Night 1, winning in Belfast after beating Van Gerwen in the final. It proved to be his only nightly win of the tournament but he enjoyed some impressive match victories along the way.
Dobey’s 2024 season brought three Players Championship wins and two nine-darters before it was rounded off with a fine display at the 2025 PDC World Championship.
The Newcastle thrower made the semi-finals before coming undone against three-time champion Van Gerwen but showed resilience and real quality in his return to form.
His quarter-final win over Gerwyn Price was a reminder of his ability on the big stage and, though he failed to claim the title, it gives him a fine platform for the 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts campaign.
