Gerwyn Price Profile Photo

A feisty and intimidating competitor at the oche, Gerwyn 'the Iceman' Price plays his darts with aggression and conviction.

Originally a rugby player – he was a hooker for Neath and Cross Keys in the Welsh Premier League as well as Glasgow Warriors in the Pro12 – Price has been throwing arrows full-time since 2014 and is one of the most consistent players on the PDC tour.

He has been showing some good form coming into the 2025 BetMGM Premier League. His Bahrain Darts Masters win over Luke Littler in January was especially eye-catching as he produced a staggering 115.31 average on his way to eliminating the world champion 6-2.

Despite ultimately losing to fellow Premier League Darts competitor Stephen Bunting in the final the Iceman’s deep run in the tournament will provide a nice confidence boost coming into the new campaign.

Below, you can delve further into Price’s career highlights and titles ahead of the 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts season, which sees eight of the world’s best compete across 17 nights in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Gerwyn Price History

Price can be an intimidating proposition for any opponent with his ex-rugby player physique, Terminator-like laser-focused glare and vocal presence on the oche.

After trying his hand at both codes of rugby, Price swapped big hits for big scores, picking up his first set of darts in his mid-20s. He discovered he had a gift.

A fast starter, it took little time for Price to earn his PDC stripes. After entering Qualifying School in January 2014 he succeeded in winning his second-ever event to earn a two-year tour card.

The rest is history and the Iceman has since gone on to become PDC world champion in 2021 – beating 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts rival Bunting along the way – as well as top the rankings as world number one and pick up a total of seven major titles.

Last year, in 2024, Price endured a disappointing Premier League when finishing second from bottom after winning just seven of his 23 matches.

However, he was one of just two players to hit a nine-darter during the campaign when he landed a perfect leg on Night 10 in Manchester, his third such leg in his Premier League career.

He also managed a run to the quarter-final of the 2025 Word Championship before winning the Bahrain Darts Masters in January – the Iceman will be undoubtedly look to build on that showing in the BetMGM Premier League.

Gerwyn Price Stats

Gerwyn Price has had some notable achievements in his locker since turning professional and his underlying stats back up his immense success. Take a look below:

  • The PDC currently credits Price with hitting seven televised nine-dart finishes, including five in major tournaments
  • Of his nine-dart finishes, three have come in the BetMGM Premier League. As well as Night 10 in Manchester last season Price accomplished the feat two times in one evening during the 2022 campaign… in Belfast, where this year’s tournament kicks off
  • He has the fourth-highest average in recorded PDC history, clocking in at 96.71. Only fellow world champions Michael van Gerwen (99.74), Gary Anderson (97.66) and Phil Taylor (97.24) have averaged more
  • Price once registered an average of 117.88 in a match at the 2022 World Cup of Darts – the ninth-highest televised average of all time

Gerwyn Price Titles

Price has won seven majors and is closing in on 40 PDC titles in total. His seven major wins are:

  • PDC World Championship – 2021
  • Grand Slam of Darts (3) – 2018, 2019, 2021
  • World Grand Prix – 2020
  • World Series Finals (2) – 2020, 2022

Related Players

While last season did not go according to plan, it would be foolish to rule out Price from a successful 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts campaign.

Statistically, the Iceman is up there with the best to have ever played the sport. But to come out on top, he is going to have to deal with some seriously talented players – namely 18-year-old world champion Luke Littler.

Older heads such as seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen, world number one Luke Humphries, 2024 Masters champion Stephen Bunting, 2018 world champion Rob Cross and major winners Nathan Aspinall and Chris Dobey will also pose a huge challenge to the Welshman.
