Luke Humphries Profile Photo

Former world champion Luke Humphries will be competing in the BetMGM Premier League for the second time proper after enjoying a successful debut campaign in 2024 and a guest appearance on two prior occasions.

Eight elite competitors – including 2018 world champion Rob Cross, current world champion Luke Littler and seven-time league titlist Michael van Gerwen – will face off with Humphries to be crowned 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts champion.

‘Cool Hand’ came up short against Littler in the final last year and will be fighting to go one better to claim his first-ever BetMGM Premier League title this time round.

Below you can find out more about Humphries ahead of the 17-night 2025 BetMGM Premier League Darts season, which kicks off on 6th February in Belfast.

Luke Humphries History

Humphries’ dominance began in the latter stages of 2023 when he won his first major title at the World Grand Prix, beating tournament favourite Gerwyn Price 5-2 in the final. His Grand Prix victory lifted him to fourth in the PDC Order of Merit – a then-career-high.

He followed that up with a Grand Slam of Darts title 42 days later before rounding out 2023 with his third major title by producing a comeback victory to defeat Van Gerwen and win the Players Championship Finals.

The 2024 season began perfectly for Humphries with a storming victory in the PDC World Darts Championship, beating teenage sensation Littler in the final.

Momentum stayed with Cool Hand through the early stages of 2024 – headlined by his stellar performances during the BetMGM Premier League Darts season.

After losing his opening match to Littler he won three consecutive nights, which equalled a Premier League record and propelled him to second place in the league table.

He toppled Michael van Gerwen on Play-Offs Night before meeting a familiar foe in the final in Littler. Humphries may have got the better of ‘the Nuke’ at the 2024 World Championship but the teenager got his revenge and resigned Cool Hand to a second-place finish.

A month later, Humphries represented England in the World Cup of Darts alongside Michael Smith and the pair became the first Englishmen to win the trophy since darting greats Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis in 2016.

Humphries rounded out 2024 by besting Littler once again at the 2024 Players Championship Finals to defend his crown, becoming only the third player to win the title for two straight years behind Taylor and van Gerwen.

The 2025 World Championship did not go to plan for Humphries, with the then-reigning world champion losing to Peter Wright in the fourth round. However, he will be looking to rectify that disappointment with a triumphant BetMGM Premier League Darts season.
