How Will Newcastle United Perform This Season?
Newcastle United have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. The Magpies returned to the Champions League for the first time in two decades after finishing fourth during the 2022/23 season.
Back-to-back top-10 finishes in England’s top flight has cemented Newcastle back among the upper echelons of the Premier League and manager Eddie Howe will be hoping he can repeat the joys of recent years this campaign. To bolster his chances, Howe has made some savvy signings and found value in the transfer market. Firstly, Lewis Hall made his loan move from Chelsea permanent while Lloyd Kelly joined on a free transfer after his release from Bournemouth. The squad has not suffered any major outgoings while Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh departing for over £50 million combined.
The core of the squad remains intact, with key players like Sven Botman and Alexander Isak sticking around in the north-east. Isak, in particular, will be crucial in catapulting Newcastle back into Champions League contention if he can improve on his 21-goal tally from the 2023/24 season.
Newcastle battled fixture congestion and an injury crisis last season before finishing eighth. Without either of those problems this season Howe’s men will look to return to the top six and challenge for glory in the domestic cup competitions.
