BEST PLAYER

Best Player at the 2024 European Championships

Europe’s elite sides are ready to battle it out in Germany as the European Championships get underway. The best players will be looking to lead their country to glory – and individual glory with the Player of the Tournament Award up for grabs.

Some household names have won this award in past tournaments, the last being Gianluigi Donnarumma, after helping Italy to penalty shootout glory over England at the 2020 tournament.

France were unable to edge past Portugal in the 2016 final but Antoine Griezmann came away with the Best Player award, notching six goals in the process.

In 2012 it was Spain’s year with the legendary Andreas Iniesta winning while 2008 was also dominated by La Roja, with Iniesta’s midfield partner Xavi crowned the best player at the Euros in Austria and Switzerland.

Further back we have winners including Greece’s Theodoros Zagorakis, the great Zinedine Zidane and the first official winner in 1996, Germany midfielder Matthias Sammer.

Let’s take a look at the players striving to join an illustrious list of names by winning the 2024 European Championships Player of the Tournament.

Odds and Favourites

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 2022 World Cup top scorer Kylian Mbappe leads the betting to win Best Player at the 2024 European Championships.

Fresh from his high-profile move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, he is clear 6/1 favourite to win the award.

Mbappe will join England midfielder Jude Bellingham at Madrid next season. The former Birmingham City man took La Liga by storm in his debut campaign, helping the Galacticos win the league and the Champions League while scoring 23 goals along the way. He is priced at 9/1 with BetMGM to follow up by being named best player at the Euros this summer.

Bellingham spearheads a trio of England players in the betting, with team-mates Harry Kane and Phil Foden available at 11/1 and 12/1 respectively.

Despite missing out on a trophy with Bayern Munich, Kane scored 36 goals in just 32 Bundesliga games while Foden helped Manchester City to a fourth successive league title and won Premier League Player of the Season.

Home interest will be on Toni Kroos, playing his last professional games at this tournament, and he is 16/1 to end his career as the best player at the championships.

Cristiano Ronaldo, in what could be his final major international tournament at the age of 39, is available at the same price as Kroos alongside Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne.

For Scottish interest you have to look a little further down the betting but, with Scott McTominay scoring seven goals in qualifying and finishing Group A top scorer despite the presence of Erling Haaland in the same section, can the 100/1 for him to be named best player at the finals tempt you?

BetMGM has a number of markets available both before and during the 2024 European Championships, including outrights, bet builders and individual player and team offerings.
